The Extraordinary Adventure of Adele Blanc-Sec
Death, for Espérandieu and Adele was the opponent who must be subdued. The body may die, but the immortal soul. Trust Socratesian like that is the main theme of the film Luc Besson, ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec’. Among the French directors of today, the name Luc Besson is one of the director and scriptwriter most prominent, especially in the genre of commercial films. His films like ‘Taxi’ (1998, directed by Gérard Pires), and ‘Arthur and the Invisibles’ (2006) successfully marketed in countries outside France. As a director, Luc Besson is not just taking and using the stories can be understood more general audience outside of France, but also uses digital technology and aesthetics of commercial (kind of editing is very fast) to pack his films.
The film ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec’ using a similar approach. The story in this film occurs in 1912. Adele Blanc-Sec, an intrepid young journalist, doing adventure to Egypt to retrieve mummy’s personal physician of King Ramesses II (king of Egypt who ruled in 1279-1213 BC). He intends to revive the body of the doctor to cure his sister, Agathe a coma lying in their apartment in Paris.
While in Paris, all hell broke loose extraordinary! A Pterodactyl eggs 136 million-year-old who was in the museum of natural history in a mysterious hatch. Winged creatures like birds with their mouths like tiranosaurus it came out and began terrorizing the city. The President also ordered the Minister of the Interior, the Mayor until the police to investigate these terrifying creatures. In a last attempt to capture the Pterodactyl, a professional hunter from Africa, Justin de Saint-Hubert lowered.
Melee Pterodactyl eggs occurred because of the efforts of Marie-Joseph Espérandieu, a scientist Egyptologi (expert Egyptians) who have horrible faces. Along with Adele, she sought to develop a method to arouse the people and creatures that have died. Spikes on the teachings of Socrates about the separation body and soul, the doctor prepared to raise the personal physician of King Ramses II to heal Agathe.
Their efforts known to the government so that the Espérandieu was arrested. But nothing can deter Adele Blanc-Sec, a woman who managed to uncover a lot of adventure with a surprising way. In many ways he tried to free Espérandieu of the death penalty. In another plot, a young scientist who worked at the Jardin des Plantes, Andrej Zborowski crazy about Adele. Andrej was the one who finally can ‘beat’ the Pterodactyl and helping indirectly Adele and Espérandieu effort against immortality.
The story is taken from the comic with the same name by Jacques Tardi. Bringing stars Mathieu Amalric kinds of important French and Louise Bourgoin, Besson spiked at multiplot confusing. Besson likes to use a jump cut to linking one scene to another scene and from one character to another character so much character present in the film is presented in half.
Adele itself looks like Paris in general women: smart, sarcastic, quick and nimble action, and arrogant. But the full potential of this Adele characters just end up in a tale of excessive guilt. Attendance Andrej and other characters such as Inspector Albert Caponi was only seen as complementary.
However, this film is extraordinary in terms of production design, layout and especially artistic costumes. Thanks to the heritage and architecture of Paris is still up until now, this film managed to provide the atmosphere and ambience of Paris in the early 20th century. The use of digital technology and special effects also make this film a visual quality is not inferior to Hollywood movies in general.
